Intro

Are you looking for a vacation that is out of this world? Disney World has so many uniquely themed rides, restaurants, and experiences that will please any space enthusiast! So, get ready to venture out on a space themed Disney vacation on the blog this week!

As part of this space themed vacation, you will be staying at the Contemporary and enjoying all of the deluxe amenities this resort has to offer! Staying at the Contemporary will definitely add to the theming more than any other resort could (not including the Star Wars Galactic Star Cruiser – which is a blog post for another day!). You will be so close to the action at Magic Kingdom, including Tomorrowland, where you spend most of your Magic Kingdom day. This vacation will include three park days, one resort day, and will be for two space-loving adults!

Breakdown

  • Theme: Space
  • Length: Four days
  • Age and Group: Two adults

Check-In

Your space themed vacation is about to take off, as you check in to the Contemporary for the next 5 nights! Arriving earlier in the day allows for you to have plenty of time to explore the resort. I always believe in allowing time in your schedule to enjoy your resort, especially if staying at a deluxe resort! There is so much to do and see at the Contemporary, you will definitely want all the time you can get.

Food

While your first meal on this vacation may not be space themed, it definitely will be one of the best meals you have ever had! Steakhouse 71 is a new restaurant at the Contemporary and it features a wonderful selection of steak and other signature entrees. This dinner will definitely help get your vacation off to a great start!

Day 1: EPCOT

EPCOT is the perfect park to start your space vacation! With a focus on the future and innovation, EPCOT has so many opportunities to really indulge in our space theme. Some of the newest rides and restaurants on Disney property are at EPCOT and we will be exploring them all!

Rides

There are so many rides to check out today at EPCOT, so you are sure to get an early start! The newest ride at EPCOT is Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. While this ride hasn’t yet opened to the public, they have had previews and the reviews have been amazing! I cannot wait to get my chance to ride this creative, new coaster! They have just announced that this ride will utilize a Virtual Queue and be available with an Individual Lightning Lane.

Before lunch, you hop on to Mission Space. This ride is a spaceship simulator experience that allows you to pick the intensity. This ride is ideal for any aspiring astronaut! As a side note, many people have adverse reactions to the more intense side of this ride. So, really be sure to make the right choice for you!

Spaceship Earth is the last ride on the space-themed agenda for today. While it doesn’t necessarily take you to space like the other rides, it is inside Spaceship Earth and includes some futuristic elements!

Food

One of the newest and most popular restaurants at Disney World is Space 220. This totally immersive restaurant is truly the inspiration for this entire vacation! You enter the restaurant and get on a “space elevator” that takes you 220 miles into space, to eat aboard a space station. With panoramic views of space and space-themed drinks and entrees, this restaurant is everything that a space lover could ever ask for! You’ll grab lunch at Space 220 and be sure to take in all the views and atmosphere!

Dinner will be at another new EPCOT location, Connections Cafe and Eatery! This quick service restaurant was built with a modern atmosphere, as well as some retro vibes. The theme and design is meant to pay homage to the original plans and dreams for EPCOT, while still being new and innovative.

Day 2: Hollywood Studios

To continue our space journey, your second park day will begin with a trip to Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios. You can’t have a space vacation without Star Wars, so starting your day at Galaxy’s Edge provides the chance to really immerse yourself!

Rides

Galaxy’s Edge has some amazing rides that really make you feel like you are part of the story and experience on Batuu. You’ll start by getting an Individual Lightning Lane for Rise of the Resistance. I finally got a chance to ride Rise of the Resistance during my trip last year. I truly cannot say enough about how amazing this whole experience is. If you are debating on purchasing the Individual Lightning Lane for this ride, for me, it was totally worth it! Being able to skip the always long queue is a great way to still be able to enjoy the rest of Galaxy’s Edge on your Hollywood Studios day.

After escaping the First Order on Rise of the Resistance, you head over to the Millenium Falcon for Smuggler’s Run. This simulator ride is super interactive and a must-do in Galaxy’s Edge.

Lastly, you can’t forget the classic Star Wars ride, Star Tours. While this ride isn’t on Batuu, it is still something you don’t want to miss on your space vacation. This ride is also a simulator that drops you right into the Star Wars action!

Food

The food at Galaxy’s Edge is definitely going to help you celebrate this space themed trip! First, as a quick breakfast, you will stop at Ronto Roasters for a Ronto Morning Wrap.

Lunch will be at Docking Bay 7. This quick-service location is in a working hanger bay and has unique lunch options to explore. For an after lunch treat, head over to the Milk Stand to try out the infamous Blue or Green milk!

Make your way back to the resort for an upscale, relaxing dinner at California Grill. This location won’t necessarily feel like space, but it will provide great views of Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom!

Extras

While in Galaxy’s Edge, you are able to make a reservation at the Droid Depot to make your very own Droid! You can choose from a BB or R series unit and even select your own colors. Your droid will come to life and come with a remote so you can control it at home. This is such a cool experience and something that your space-loving traveler will definitely remember forever. Check out all the options and how to book this experience here!

Day 3: Resort Day

After a few long days, a relaxing day at the resort is exactly what you need to recover and be refreshed for your last park day!

Food

You will start off your resort day with a character breakfast at Chef Mickey’s. This all-you-care-to-eat dining location can be found in the main concourse of the Contemporary. Enjoy some classic breakfast favorites, along with quality time with the Fab Five!

After breakfast, take advantage of the Feature Pool, hot tub, and waterslide right outside the resort! Grab a quick bite for lunch from the Sand Bar, the conveniently located pool bar, that serves lunch and tropical drinks.

After your relaxing pool day, hop on the monorail and head to the Grand Floridian. At Narcoossee’s you will savor a delicious dinner on the water, with beautiful views of Magic Kingdom.

Day 4: Magic Kingdom

The best way to end your space vacation is with a day full of retro space vibes at Tomorrowland! A stay at the Contemporary, means you are just steps away from the gates of Magic Kingdom. So, you don’t have far to go to enjoy your last park day!

Rides

You’ll be spending most of your day in Tomorrowland, so you will head straight there in the morning. First on the list, and my personal favorite, is Space Mountain. This classic Magic Kingdom ride takes you on a whirlwind journey through space!

Next, head to the middle of Tomorrowland for Astro Orbiter. Take the elevator up to this ride and enjoy the view while flying on a rocket! This ride is perfect for any space fan!

The People Mover is actually located right below Astro Orbiter, so you won’t have far to go for your next ride. After your thrilling flight through the air, take a little break and enjoy a ride around Tomorrowland.

Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin is your last ride for the day. Be sure to try to get a high score as you try to defeat Emperor Zurg! There are a few secret targets that will help you reach the highest score possible in the game – 999,999. Do you research before your trip to impress the rest of your group!

Food

Lunch today will be at the appropriately named, Lunching Pad. Grab a simple Mickey pretzel with cheese, a hot dog, or wings. I don’t think a trip to Disney is complete without eating a few Mickey shaped snacks!

Grab an afternoon snack from Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies. This quick service location serves ice cream, milk shakes, and floats! It’s the best way to cool off after being in the Florida sun all day.

Ending the night, you will head to Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe for dinner. You’ll be able to enjoy some burgers, sandwiches, and hot dogs. While you eat, listen to the sounds of DJ Sonny Eclipse to really feel like you are dining in space!

Extras

Close out your park days with a viewing of Enchantment, the nighttime show at Magic Kingdom. To get the best experience and watch from Tomorrowland, you opt to do one of the Dessert Parties, Disney’s Enchantment Treats & Seats. Celebrate your last night with special desserts, drinks, and an amazing seated view of the show!

Check Out

It’s finally time to land back home from your time in outer space! This vacation really was a blast to plan and I hope you enjoyed it too. Do you have any future astronauts or space enthusiasts in your family that would love this vacation? Let us know in the comments!
